L.E.A.D.
LET’S
ELIMINATE AGGRESSIVE DRIVING
August 23, 2001 – N. Miami, Fl. The Florida Department of
Transportation and the American Institute for Public Safety Foundation are
producing a public service announcement to kick off a statewide campaign to save
lives entitled L.E.A.D., Let’s
Eliminate Aggressive Driving.
This PSA will be a high impact message to raise public
awareness and save lives addressing what is now the leading concern among
drivers today, aggressive driving and road rage. According to the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration aggressive driving is responsible for
two-thirds of all traffic fatalities, which is almost four times as many as
driving under the influence.
Miami-based Walker/Fitzgibbon Television and Films is
creating a 30 second spot, shot in both English and Spanish, featuring Two-time
Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Jon Secada, delivering a serious message
in a way that will reach the target audience with the desired impact of a making
people think, feel and behave differently when they drive. The “edgy”
stylish production is delivered in a way “to make it cool to be a better
driver.”
The PSA is a part of an all embracing campaign produced by
the American Institute for Pubic Safety Foundation, based in N. Miami in
conjunction with the Florida Department of Transportation, to promote traffic
safety. Florida is home to four of the top ten metro areas in the country for
fatalities due to aggressive driving. Tampa/St. Petersburg is second with
Orlando fourth, Miami fifth, and Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood seventh.
